IMEC

IMEC is an independent research center in the field of microelectronics, with a staff of 1200 people. The most important scientific activities are concentrated on the development of new process technologies, materials and devices, packaging. IMEC has an experimental processing facility for organic circuits and solar cells. The IMEC labs further comprise measurement set-ups and extended software tools for modeling. In the work package "Materials, Devices and Circuits" of POLYAPPLY, IMEC will work on the stability and integrity of interfaces (dielectric-semiconductor and contacts) and on simplified and self-aligned processes for organic thin-film circuits. IMEC will in particular also target to delineate the expected limits of organic circuits, using experiments and modeling, in order to contribute to the roadmapping of the technologies of POLYAPPLY to 2010. In the work package "Processing and manufacturing", IMEC will work on functional integration. In the work package "Reliability", IMEC will investigate causes of hysteresis and bias instability of organic semiconductor transistors, related to the materials and the processes. The chief scientist of these activities is Paul Heremans. He is Senior Scientist at IMEC, Leuven, and head of the Polymer and Molecular Electronics team with about 20 people.
